The Evans Senior Center has been in existence since 1981 and still has the same mission originally set forth in "Helping seniors remain in their own homes through active participation, socialization, recreation and nutrition in the community." Our focus has remained the same and our nutrition program that started us off through the Erie County Senior Services Department is still going strong twenty-four years later, five days a week. Programs have been more health and fitness related at the Center. Line dancing, strength, stamina, and stay fit exercise have replaced aerobics and square dancing but the outcome has endured. We have a happy, healthy, and energetic group of seniors.

Our seniors have remained the backbone of the community. Many of them not only have their names etched in the charters of the organizations of our town, but also remain active through volunteer opportunities that ensure the community groups and organizations sheer existence.

Volunteer opportunities at the center are mainly the nutrition program and Evans Entertainers. The Entertainers, although always looking for a new members, are still one of only two groups left that go out and entertain on a monthly basis to local nursing homes and day rehab facilities in Western New York through the funding of the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). We host monthly courses through AARP Defensive Driving, as well as offer annual flu shot and health clinics, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) information and referral, speaker seminars, theme parties, holiday events, picnics, fundraisers, daily programs, bingo, cards, board games, billiards, table tennis, shuffleboard, movie days and book exchange. Treadmills, cardio-fit stationary bikes, elliptical and gazelles are available to the seniors during hours of operation. Day and overnight trips round out activities offered through the Senior Citizen Center.
